Week 3: Beliefs
Time to establish some rules for your emotions. Rules are grounded and formed from beliefs. Have you thought about the beliefs you have concerning how you experience and express your emotions? This week you will learn where beliefs come from, how to set or refine your beliefs, and how to change emotions through your beliefs.
Review the materials below and explore the thought experiments after both videos. Our group session will recap what you learned and offer time to explore and apply that learning.

Topic 1
Beliefs defined.
Beliefs are the acceptance that something is true or factual without absolute proof. Beliefs are feelings. What if our thoughts, beliefs, and actions do not align? Generally, we experience something that is not reality. Specifically, we experience extreme emotions. What happens when we hold onto negative or harmful beliefs? There’s some serious neuroscience here — so pay attention! The thought experiment will guide you through a process of establishing positive beliefs and strong, meaningful stories about your beliefs.
Topic 2
Anatomy of beliefs.
Our beliefs are the construct of the stories we tell ourselves. But how do those stories come together? There are 6 parts to our belief construct: (1) Environment, (2) Past Results, (3) Knowledge, (4) Life Events, (5) View of the Future, and (6) Role Models. These elements help us influence our emotions. This is going to make for an interesting group session!

Formulas
Emotional fitness is both about ending suffering and about building positive emotional strength. Our immersion ends with using discontent for emotional growth. You’ll explore a formula for ending suffering and establish goals to exercise your emotions in the weeks and months that follow.

Conclusion
At the end of this highly intensive 4-week experience, you’ll schedule a final coaching session with Johanna. Our goal is to help you bring what you learned into your daily life.
And since this is a pilot and we’re learning along with you, we’ll ask you some additional questions about your experience and get your feedback on this immersion and anything else that would help you author a thriving life.
